Hello and
thank you for visiting our website. My name is Lori Enright and I
live in Southern California with my husband, Jim. Jim and I have
been married for over 27 years and have two grown children as well
as a foster son in whom we are well pleased. The Lord was faithful to provide the most
wonderful young man as husband to our one and only daughter. Our
family is growing and what a blessing it has been!
I have kept all kinds of pigs over the years including Yorkshire,
Hampshire, pot-bellied and other miniature pigs as well as various
crosses. After keeping a kunekune pig for a friend, I quickly
learned that the kunekune breed is set apart from all others. These
little pigs are extremely friendly having always been a domesticated
breed kept by the Maori people of New Zealand sometimes referred to
as the "Maori Pig". They are gentle, easy to handle, colorful, and
easy on the environment.
After an exhaustive search, I found that the kunekune pig is a very
rare breed in the United States as well as around the world. In
March of 2005, I was blessed to have the opportunity to travel with
a group of prestigious gentlemen from two large universities on a
pig buying trip to England. My husband suggested that I might find
the much sought after kunekune breed during my time abroad. Much to
my delight, I met two very special pig breeders, Andy and Maureen
Case of Dorset, England. They recently
discovered that they are the largest breeders of kunekune pigs in
the entire world! These folks are two of the most generous and kind
people I have ever met. They are from a long line of pig breeders
and have extensive knowledge and experience with rare breed pigs
including the Kunekune, Middle White, and Oxford Sandy and Black.
Andy Case is the author of a book entitled, "Starting With Pigs"
published by Broad Leys Publishing Limited. Andy and Maureen
provided us with our beautiful and colorful, little kunekune pigs
which are
registered with The British Kune Kune Pig Society. They have a long history and a well
respected reputation with the Society.
Our pigs are part of a 4H project called "Rare Livestock Breeds
Conservation" of which I am the leader. Due to their rarity, small size,
unusual colors, and extremely gentle nature, kunekunes make fantastic
project animals. We use these little pigs to teach the youth about the
importance of genetic diversity, adaptability, historic value, and more. By
displaying our pigs at fairs, shows, and various educational venues we have
had the opportunity to educate the public as well. Those 4Hr's that
participate take on the responsibility of preparing the pigs to be shown,
caring for the pigs on display, and public speaking by answering questions
asked by those attending these shows. In addition, the 4hr's are learning
how to promote the breed through breeding, owning, showing, and the
improvement of the kunekune pigs.
Jim and I are members of the British Kune Kune Pig Society and the New
Zealand KuneKune Breeder's Association. Feel free to contact us regarding
these associations and the kunekune pig breed. You are cordially invited to
our home as we would love to meet you in person. Please call or email for
an appointment. Looking forward to hearing from you and God bless! |
